The Work Continues

So Paula and my Mom came up two days ago and we had so much fun!!  We watched Charlie St. Cloud and had a Pizza Party (Yummy pizza and salad from Papa Murphy's).  It was fun to have company we hardly ever have visitors!!  Then we had more surprise visitors.  Ster's family all showed up Yesterday afternoon and brought more pizza and cheese bread.  We watched a kids movie and everyone fell asleep including alyssa (she is so cute).
Today We got some drywall up, we did some mudding and put in the boxes for the electrical.  We didn't get too far today because Ster has had a migraine all day.  We also started putting in the Laminate flooring.  We were going to get it from Wholesale Flooring Source in Logan they had a pretty good deal on it, but we couldn't get enough in to do the kitchen until next week.  Then we found it for 11 cents cheaper a square foot at Cash and Carry Flooring Outlet in Logan and they had enough in stock to buy it all today (What a Deal!!!).  We had Rachel and Ryan over for a bit last night it was fun we watched Wallstreet (not my favorite movie, it was really slow) but had fun with our company.  We also played Carcassone on the Xbox which is really fun.  We haven't seen Rachel and Ryan forever because we weren't here for Thanksgiving and didn't go to Moab with the family this fall. Ster's Family is going to the Condo tonight but we opted out because of Ster's migraine.

Vacation Project

So i received tile from my parents for christmas but after tearing the old floor off decided it would be easier to do pergo.  First we are building our pantry then we are going to put the pergo floor in the kitchen.  We returned the tile to Lowes and bought some of the supplies last night so we could start on the pantry.  We then found the pergo we want but the shipment is not in until Thursday so we can go get it.
We woke up at 6:30 this morning to start our project.  Sterling was kind of grumpy so he wore his oscar the grouch shirt.  Truthfully ster did a lot of the work while I took pics, handed him things, cooked him breakfast and did the dishes.  But I thought it was fun :)  I will get to do the sheetrock and the painting while he does the electrical later this week, then I will get to do the flooring :) while he does shelving.  Then it will be time to go back to work :(
I am excited to start at Utah State again this next semester.  After this next year of teaching I plan on quitting my current job, doing a year and a half full time of school, then getting a job in an elementary school, we will see how that works out though.  Well I got to get to house cleaning so I am off Toodeloo!!

Christmas is Over

Christmas was awesome this year we made at least $500 in items and money that were donated to a family in need and that was really fun.  I made a bunch of Christmas ornaments that I sold and I also sold Papa Murphy's gift cards.  The 10 year old in the family we helped even asked Sterling if he was Santa Claus it was really cute and funny. Write me a note at smileincamo@hotmail.com if you helped out and want to know how it went!!  We got awesome stuff for Christmas.  Sterling has been playing his new Xbox games and helping me get the kitchen ready to lay down some tile.  That is what my parents gave me for Christmas. New Tile for my kitchen.  My cats thought that tearing the nasty carpet out of the kitchen was a game it was kind of funny.  My carpet had the padding attached to it.  This weird black foam and it was glued to the floor underneath.  I am going to scrape as much as I can then maybe the store has some sort of solvent I can use to get the rest off.  When the floor is done we are going to put a pantry in.  YAY I will finally have enough shelf space in my kitchen. I will post some pics of the project.  Well i gotta get to Salt Lake to get my tile so I can start my project.  Sterling sewed me red furry pajama pants for Christmas so I look like Elmo I love them.
OK so this was a very scattered blog sorry about that Luv you all!!

Finished with the 100 dollar challenge

Finally finished with the 100 dollar challenge- Overall I think we did pretty good!  Can't say how good cuz it is supposed to be a secret for Christmas Morning.  Morgan helped me with sales tonight it was awesome.

You know what is sad?  The people in modest homes helped much more than those in the gigantically sickeningly humongous homes.  I was thinking you live in a giant mansion and you cant help out with just a few dollars (you are even getting something in return for your money)!!!  crazy
Some people were so amazingly generous I met tons of absolutely amazing people, so grateful for this experience.
My Feet Hurt, My back hurts and I am exhausted (stayed up until 4 am wrapping presents last night)  I am going to finish the stuff for my christmas envelope tomorrow and for now I am off to have a superfun sleepover with Morgan my sister in law bye bye!!

Christmas Vacation

So I am officially on my Christmas Vacation.  My plans for today are to get my house clean and then after wards continue to make money for some families in need for Christmas.  My Parents are so super cool.  They gave each of their children a challenge at Thanksgiving.  We all got an envelope with $100 enclosed and a note that said that this was part of our Christmas money, we are supposed to use it to make more money before Christmas, then give it all to a Family in need.  All of my siblings were so excited and I think every one at least doubled the money they received.  It has made this month a little more stressful but absolutely worthwhile.  On Christmas Morning we all put an envelope on the Christmas Tree at my Parents house and inside it says what we did this Christmas to help someone in need.  This has been a long time tradition in the family because of the story "The Christmas Envelope" by Nancy W. Gavin found at:
http://www.best-christmas-stories.com/2008/12/the-christmas-envelope/
The hundred dollar challenge was a new twist and it was really fun.
Since I work at a Head Start I know of many families in need so the challenging part is getting stuff for them not finding someone in need.  One of my friends from the mission helped donate a ton of stuff to my Head Start center you can read about it at http://thevocalsokool.blogspot.com/ she is absolutely amazing!!
Well I have got to go, so I will talk to anyone who is out there listening later :)

Guess It is time

Let me introduce myself.  My name is Carly and I am married to a wonderful man named Sterling.  I have thought of doing a blog before but I never have.  I am a busy Preschool Teacher that often thinks of many things to do, things that never seem to get done.  I am on Christmas Vacation and so I am starting a blog.
I had quite the year this year.  I am getting a second bachelor's degree, this one is in Elementary Education with an Early Childhood Education endorsement.  This was my first year as the Head Teacher in a Montessori Classroom (Not an easy thing I assure you!).  I worked with a girl who just had a baby so the last month has been insane.  I have had many subs and helpers in my classroom, which really makes it crazier than just being in there by myself at times.  It just really seems to set off 3,4 and 5 year olds when you are constantly changing their teacher's.  Who woulda thought?  There are 2 teachers and up to 20 kids in my classroom at any given time.  Sometimes we have a third teacher to help, and we almost always need that help!  I definitely work way more than the 40 hours a week I get paid for, but I absolutely love my very difficult stressful job. I don't want to leave my class but I really want to teach elementary school more than any other age group and I am working on getting there. Plus I will get paid twice as much for the same amount of work.
I love the government in that way.  They have provided Head Start which is an absolutely amazing program, but they pay their teachers almost nothing.  Then they tell us that we are going to need to have a bachelor's degree to work at a job that pays us almost nothing.  If they don't fix this problem they are going to lose all their teachers soon, it is so sad, because those wonderful children deserve to have consistency in teachers and good teachers, not just the ones that couldn't get a job anywhere else.
I read somewhere that the average person with a bachelor's degree makes 50,000 dollars a year in the U.S. but the average Head Start teacher I know, even those with bachelor's degree's, make about half of a beginning teachers salary in Utah (which is not very much to begin with).
Even though I don't plan on staying with Head Start for too much longer, I think we all need to petition to pay the hardworking teachers who are employed by Head Start a lot more for the work they do!!  Well I am out for tonight I will figure out this blog thing a little more over the next week.
